Iris-GmbH is an international company with headquarters in Berlin / Germany. It has been producing IRMA Automatic Passenger Counting Systems for over 30 years. All over the world, more than a hundred thousand trains, buses and trams in various countries and metropolitan areas are equipped with IRMA systems. The Iris-GmbH company is an unquestionable leader in its field.

The iris-GmbH has received Red Dot, German Innovation and IF Design Awards for the outstanding engineering of IRMA sensors. In addition, during the 13th edition of the International Railway Fair TRAKO 2019, the IRMA 6 sensor won the Ernest Malinowski main prize in the category Technical and technological innovations implemented in rolling stock.

In Poland, IRMA sensors automatically count passengers in the trains of such operators as: PKP Intercity, Polregio, SKM Warsaw, Dolnoslaskie Railways, Wielkopolskie Railways, WKD, Malopolskie Railways, Slaskie Railways.

Passenger counting systems based on IRMA sensors enable the fleet to be better matched to transportation needs and also allow the data to be used to make predictions about the number of passengers on the next train trips.
Additionally, data from IRMA sensors can be combined with data from other systems, so we can check e.g. dependence of passenger traffic on weather, days of the week, traffic disturbances, mass events.  It is also possible to compare the number of sold tickets with the number of transported passengers.

It is worth pointing out that IRMA sensors can provide information about the occupancy of a given vehicle in real time. With the IRMA sensor data, railway operators can inform their passengers which train car has more room in order to make the journey more comfortable.
